The story

A green mountain, a cup of peace

Monteverde was not built for hurry. Every cup we pour carries a century of this mountain: farmers, pacifists, scientists, and a forest that drinks from the clouds.

  • 1900s

    The first farms

Costa Rican families settle the green mountain, planting coffee and raising dairy on slopes that touch the clouds.

  • 1948

    A nation chooses peace

Costa Rica abolishes its army. The country puts down its weapons for good.

  • 1951

    The Quakers arrive

Forty four Quakers leave Alabama, choosing Costa Rica because it has no army. They buy land in the cloud forest and name it Monteverde, the green mountain.

  • 1972

    The forest protected

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is founded. The community protects the watershed instead of clearing it, and the world comes to walk under its canopy.

  • Today

    Your cup

The Hanging Garden continues the story: slow coffee, hanging plants, and a table waiting for you between the clouds.

Peace. Simplicity. Stewardship. Community.
